This program is open to all TWUC members

Applications are being accepted for readings taking place between May 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

The Writers’ Union of Canada funds author visits to Ontario elementary and secondary schools and subsidizes a portion of the author's fee. Requests must be made by the host school in writing. Application forms can be obtained below or from the Coordinator, Readings and Competitions.

We cannot recommend specific authors for your school. Please refer to members' pages or search the Writers-in-the-Schools search engine for information on authors and their fees.

A half day is one or two sessions. A full day is three or four sessions.

Each author sets his or her own reading fee rates: a minimum of $300 for a full day and $200 for a half day. The Union pays a portion of the reading fee directly to the author, $150 for a full day and $100 for a half day. For example: if an author charges $500 for a two-session, half-day visit, TWUC will pay the author $100 directly and the school is responsible for paying the remaining $400 to the author directly on the day of the visit. The fee is to be confirmed between the school and the author in advance of the visit.

The Writers' Union of Canada reimburses the author's travel and accommodation expenses up to $125 for a half-day visit and up to $250 for a full-day visit. The host organization is responsible for paying for additional travel and accommodation expenses.
