The Writers’ Union of Canada held an Awakening in Ottawa on April 16 to “awaken” the Harper government to the cultural and economic contribution the arts make to Canada.

Writers, filmmakers, playwrights, visual artists, musicians, dancers, and actors held a press conference in the Charles Lynch pressroom on Parliament Hill on Monday, April 16, 2007. Later, Canadian Artists from all disciplines gathered in front of Centre Block for the Awakening event.
