Do you have any writing competitions?

The Writers’ Union of Canada runs three annual writing competitions. The Short Prose Competition for Developing Writers has a deadline of November 3 each year and is open to unpublished writers. The Postcard Story Competition is open to both published and unpublished writers with a deadline of February 14. The Writing for Children Competition for unpublished writers has a deadline of April 24.

The Writers’ Union of Canada also administers The Danuta Gleed Literary Award for a first collection of published short fiction in English.

Do you really want my name on every page?
The Short Prose Competition and the Writing for Children Competition are not sent to a blind jury. Please write your name on every page so your story doesn’t get mixed up with any other entries. The Postcard Story Competition is sent to a blind jury. Please do not write your name on the story itself, but on the cover letter only.

Can I send multiple submissions to your writing contests?
You can send as many entries to each competition as you like. If your stories are all ready at the same time, please submit them together in a single envelope with a single cheque to cut down on the administrative work.
