29, 2010 The Writers' Union of Canada (TWUC)
is extremely concerned about the treatment of journalist Jesse
Rosenfeld who was reportedly beaten and arrested Saturday
night while covering protests at the G20 summit in Toronto.
According to many reports, this was just one of a string of
violations of press and freedom of expression rights by security
forces at the G20 summit.

Electronic Rights Recognized, But Compensation to Be Less Than
Hoped |

28, 2010 The Electronic Rights Defence Committee
(ERDC) wishes that its settlements with parts of the Canwest
communication empire would result in a lot more money in the
pockets of freelance writers, but is pleased that the settlements
include explicit recognition of the importance of protecting
electronic rights and the need to compensate writers fairly
for the use of their material. READ

to announce that Francine Dick has won the eleventh annual
Postcard Story Competition, for the best story under 250 words,
with her piece "Pflegespulung." The author will
receive a $500 cash prize. In addition, the story will be
published in Write: The Magazine of The Writers' Union
