TWUC Deplores Beating, Arrest of Canadian Journalist Jesse Rosenfeld and Other Free Speech Violations at the G20

June 29, 2010 The Writers' Union of Canada (TWUC) is extremely concerned about the treatment of journalist Jesse Rosenfeld who was reportedly beaten and arrested Saturday night while covering protests at the G20 summit in Toronto. According to many reports, this was just one of a string of violations of press and freedom of expression rights by security forces at the G20 summit.

Good News and Not So Good News in ERDC-Canwest Settlement:
Electronic Rights Recognized, But Compensation to Be Less Than Hoped
June 28, 2010 The Electronic Rights Defence Committee (ERDC) wishes that its settlements with parts of the Canwest communication empire would result in a lot more money in the pockets of freelance writers, but is pleased that the settlements include explicit recognition of the importance of protecting electronic rights and the need to compensate writers fairly for the use of their material.

"Pflegespulung" wins Writers' Union of Canada's 11th Annual Postcard Story Competition

June 11, 2010 The Writers' Union of Canada is pleased to announce that Francine Dick has won the eleventh annual Postcard Story Competition, for the best story under 250 words, with her piece "Pflegespulung." The author will receive a $500 cash prize. In addition, the story will be published in Write: The Magazine of The Writers' Union of Canada. READ MORE
