Carmen A. Ziolkowski was born in an old convent in Italy on a stormy February night. She studied nursing science at the Policlinico in Rome. She learned English in England and received further education in the medical field, earning a diploma in obstetrics. In 1956 she came to Canada and was accepted into journalism at Port Huron College. Later, she took further courses at Wayne State University. She is married with two sons, Robin and Jim, and is the proud grandmother of Alexandra and Nicolas. She lives in Sarnia with her husband Bruno.
