Sapha Burnell is an award winning filmmaker, martial artist and author of Usurper Kings. The product of an immigrant father and Canadian mother, she struggled with multicultural, religious and gender roles. Sapha studied Literature, Creative Writing, Film & Chemistry in University and won the Cinergy Film Festival's Audience Choice Award in 2009. In 2013, 2014 she won multiple awards in Taekwondo. Serving on charitable committees, Sapha works on diversity & cultural acceptance.
As a volunteer in West Africa, Sapha discovered a global perspective, and returned to writing motivated to shift the role of women, minorities and the LGBTQ Community.
Sapha is currently serving as an Advocate on The Writer's Union of Canada's National Council.
