This program is open to all TWUC members

The Writers’ Union of Canada funds author visits to Ontario elementary and secondary schools and subsidizes a portion of the author's fee. Requests must be made by the host school in writing. Application forms can be obtained below or from the projects coordinator.

We cannot recommend specific authors for your school. Please refer to members' pages or search the Writers-in-the-Schools search engine for information on authors and their fees.

The OAC base honorarium is $200 per half-day visit (generally 2 sessions) and $300 per full-day visit (generally 3 or 4 sessions). TWUC pays one-half of this fee on behalf of the school, and the school pays the other half ($100 & $150, respectively). If an author charges more than the base honorarium the school is responsible for the difference. For example: If an author charges $350 for a half-day visit, TWUC will pay the author $100 and the school is responsible for paying the remaining $250 to the author directly on the day of the visit.

The Writers' Union of Canada reimburses the author's travel and accommodation expenses up to $125 for a half-day visit and up to $250 for a full-day visit. The host organization is responsible for paying for additional travel and accommodation expenses.

For more information on the program, please see Writers-in-the-Schools Information.

Applications are now being accepted for the upcoming fall (September 7, 2010 to March 31, 2011) session.
