Mona Fertig
 
 
Mona Fertig was born in Vancouver. She opened The Literary Storefront (Canada's first literary center) in Vancouver in 1978. It housed the first B.C. office of the Writers' Union of Canada. She has published 14 books and chapbooks of poetry and has given readings from Vancouver to Newfoundland, New York to San Francisco. She has been a bookseller, founding member of the B.C. Federation of Writers, the Feminist Caucus-League of Canadian Poets, the B.C. Book Prize Committee. She has been the B.C. Rep for P.E.N. Canada, BC/Yukon Rep for TWUC and has sat on many literary juries. Since 1990 she has been the owner/operator/ designer with her husband Peter Haase (a letterpress printer/electrician) of (m)Öthêr Tøñguè Press, a private literary press in B.C and in 2008 started a new BC trade publishing company called Mother Tongue Publishing.
