Born and educated in the Canadian Maritimes, Brian Arthur Brown is a minister of the United Church of Canada. While a student in Quebec, Brown was closely associated with Rene Levesque, who persuaded him to write Separatism in 1976 articulating French Canada's aspirations to English Canada. Levesque's impressive foreword is a definative statement on "sovereignty-association".
During a lengthy ministry in Western Canada, Brian Arthur Brown wrote on Canadian issues from the perspectives of northern natives, prairie populism and western alienation in The Burning Bush, The Canadian Challenge and The New Confederation. The latter with a foreword by Premier Bernett of British Columbia, as a reply to Levesque.
His more recent ministry in Eastern Canada also included writing. The Canadian Quest for Peace, with a foreword by HRH Princess Anne, was followed by Your Neighbour As Yourself, on Canada's relations with the USA, with John Kenneth Galbraith.
Brian’s current book, Noah’s Other Son, Bridging the Gap Between the Bible and the Qur’an, tells the stories of 25 well known Biblical characters as retold in the Qur’an. The material for the foreword is contributed by Salman Rushdie, with an Afterword by Rabbi Reuven Firestone. Published simultaneously in London and New York in January, 2007 by T&T Clark, Noah’s Other Son presents the story of Canaan, the rebellious son who refused to get on that ridiculous ark his parents were building. It is a parable relating to our personal rebellions against God and the world situation in which Jews, Christians and Muslims find themselves today.
