Workshop Description:
Julie
has read and workshopped in numerous schools across Canada, as well as
participated in most of Canada’s International Writers’ Festivals. She is a
regular keynote speaker/teen mentor at the Canadian Children’s Book Camp held
each year in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her workshops are designed according
to the age of the students participating. They are most successful with grades
seven and up. These highly interactive workshops are lively, fun and are meant
to encourage students to learn to love both reading and writing. The content is
as listed below;
A series of engaging interactive
writing exercises that draw in even the most reluctant students.
These exercises encourage
creativity.
These exercises build writing skills
in a non-threatening, game oriented manner.
Presentations include a short
reading from Buritnshaw’s novels to highlight exercises.
Detailed discussions on: Where ideas
come from, how to research a novel, writing a novel – idea to book,
editing and much more.
