Karen Patkau
 
 
Karen was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours degree. She continued her studies at the University of Alberta and received a Master of Visual Arts degree in Visual Communication. Karen lives in Toronto, where she works as an illustrator, author, designer, visual artist, and arts educator.

Presentation Description:
Karen will read and talk about her nonfiction picture books on diversity in the animal kingdom; Creatures Great & Small and Creatures Yesterday & Today. Depending on interest and grade level of students, she will also present her newly illustrated edition of One Watermelon Seed by Celia Barker Lottridge. Samples of her picture book art-in-progress will illustrate the talk. Questions and comments from the audience are encouraged. Colouring sheets will be given to teachers or librarians for distribution to students.
