Celia Barker Lottridge was born in Iowa City, and spent her childhood in many places, including California, Massachusetts, and Kansas. She continued her family's footloose tradition by getting her BA from Stanford, her MLS from Colombia, and living and working as a librarian in San Diego, New York City, Providence, and Boston. In 1975 she came to Toronto, got a BEd from the University of Toronto, and proceeded to change careers: from teacher-librarian, to bookstore buyer, to freelance storyteller and writer. She teaches courses in storytelling and continues to explore the connection between oral storytelling and written stories.
