Joyce Barkhouse, C.M., O.N.S., was born in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, but has lived in Charlottetown, Halifax, and Montreal. A teacher and homemaker, she has spent a lifetime writing short fiction and articles that have been published in textbooks and periodicals. She has eight books and has written almost exclusively about her native province. She is best known for her novel, Pit Pony, which became a CBC-TV movie-of -the-week in 1997and later a 36-episode serial for CBC-TV, both produced by Cochran Entertainment, of Halifax. An honorary life member of both TWUC and WFNS, she resides in Bridgewater, NS.
