Economic Impact of COVID-19
The Writers’ Union of Canada is collecting information to quantify the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on writers in Canada. Please use the form below to document confirmed and projected losses of income from your writing and related activities.
The Union will use the details collected to provide aggregate information to government representatives and funding bodies. We will not share any personal information without your permission (refer to the agreement section below).
We are aware that measuring lost income for writers is complex as many losses are hidden, such as the potential loss of book sales on a new release or backlist title in a time when fewer people are able to access bookstores, and the potential loss of festival invitations because of forced schedule changes and cancellations. When completing the form, please quantify your confirmed and projected losses, as both are important components of overall sector losses. For projected losses, use past experiences (for example a previous book release or past festival appearances) to estimate the impact.
