Dee Hahn began writing when her children begged for bedtime stories, and she never stopped! Dee is a lover of chickens, lemon pie, kayaking- and books, of course! When she isn't writing, you can find Dee building treeforts and adventuring with her family.
Presentations begin with a brief bio as well as an icebreaker/reading. This is followed by a discussion of my own writing process and suggestions on how to set the stage for creativity. A live action 'locked box' trivia game concludes the session, as well as a Q & A period.
Most presentations are around 45 to 50 minutes in length, with a few minutes afterwards for questions. Time length can be adapted to the specific needs of the audience.
I love to create an engaging and dynamic atmosphere throughout the presentation, and I strive to make sure there is time for students to offer their ideas and thoughts. The game portion allows students to draw on some of the curriculum content they've learned in grades 4 to 6, as well as work together to reach a prize.
My creative writing workshops include a brief bio, an overview of the suspense/spooky style of writing, and a brief activity which allows students to exercise what they've learned.
During the workshop, students will engage in a group exercise where they'll learn how to develop a strong writing voice. There will be time for students to express their thoughts as well as practice making a piece more suspenseful.
