Dr. Joanna Kafarowski has a passion for uncovering and writing about the lives of forgotten polar women. She is the author of "Antarctic Pioneer The Trailblazing Life of Jackie Ronne." This is the first biography of a female Antarctic explorer and was published in May, 2022 by Dundurn Press. She also wrote "The Polar Adventures of a Rich American Dame A Life of Louise Arner Boyd" (Dundurn Press, 2017) which is the first comprehensive biography of a female Arctic explorer. It was released in 2021 as an audiobook by Blackstock Publishers and published in 2018 in Spanish by Ediciones Casiopea.
Joanna Kafarowski is a Canadian geographer who has worked extensively with Indigenous communities in the Arctic. She is the editor of "Gender, Culture and Northern Fisheries" (University of Alberta, 2009). She is a Fellow of The Explorers Club, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Member of the Society of Woman Geographers, a Member of The Antarctican Society, a Member of International Arctic Social Sciences Association and an Associate of the American Geographical Society.
I can present on the importance of including women when studying polar history as well as on the lives and contributions of specific female polar explorers.
