She was born in Vancouver, B.C., and spent her childhood in the southern interior of B.C. She received a B.A. at U.B.C., an M.A. at the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. at Simon Fraser University. Divorced, with four adult children, she lives in West Vancouver, B.C. She has written poems since childhood, wrote and published short fiction and literary criticism in the past but now writes only poems and essays.
