Anne Montagnes

Photo: David Lee 1995

Anne Montagnes was born in Toronto in 1935, where she later obtained her M.A. at the University of Toronto. She has raised three children in Toronto, and in a wild place in the country nearby. In her novels and stories she uses Toronto and the surrounding wilderness (physical and psychological) as setting. Also as setting, she uses India--where she has backpacked--and the east and west coasts of Canada. A number of writers began their careers in her creative writing workshops. She likes to be able to eyeball the audience when she reads from her works or talks about the tricks of the writer's trade.
