Chuck Bowie

Chuck Bowie graduated from the University of New Brunswick, in Canada, with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. He still lives on the East Coast of Canada, an hour east of Maine. His writing is influenced by the study of human nature, and how people behave, habits he picked up as his family moved nineteen times in his first twenty one years. Chuck loves food, wine, music and travel, and all play a role in his writing.

He draws upon elements of these experiences to round out his characters and plotlines. Chuck is involved in the world of music, often playing with musicians, supporting them and celebrating their success. Because he enjoys venting with the best of them, Chuck writes the occasional essay, some of which can be found on his website: http://chuckbowie.ca

He is currently working through the fourth novel in his suspense-thriller series Donovan: Thief For Hire. The third is entitled Steal It All, and follows the success of Three Wrongs and AMACAT.

Chuck is married to Lois Willams. He has two adult sons who are also musicians. He can be contacted at chuckbowie33@gmail.com

Presentation Description

My presentation is usually one of two types. In one offering, I would discuss one of my novels, breaking it down by narrative arc, characters, dialogue and exposition. For example, I may discuss how my protagonist isn't the typical 'good guy'. and how complex characters may changes with their experiences.

A second example of presentation would be to discuss genre writing, explaining how the approach may need to contain a startling event to begin with, complications to make things interesting and a series of events that increase the tension to the climax. However, there is room for humour, or a particular focus that complements the plotline, such as an interest in wineries, or food.

Presentation Length:
1/2 Hour to 1/2 Day
Genre:
Suspense-Thriller
Grades:
9-12, College, University
Audience size:
Various, Usu. Classroom
Workshop Description:

Workshops would be structured similarly to one of the two kinds of presentations I've mentioned above, however, reference to the pedagogy of writing and writer styles would be included. Objective, background, challenges and opportunities and recapitulation are used to delineate the elements of the workshop, to add structure and meet objectives.
