Presentation Description

Daphne talks about the power of believing in one self and loves to help inspire that in others. She uses her own journey of how she became a writer to prove this point as writing was never on her radar. The students love hearing that she’s a terrible speller and that she forgets where to put commas. She shows a very short inspirational video and ties it in with writing. She likes to do some fun activities to show the students the importance of not expecting things to be perfect on the first try. She passes on writing tips and uses her first hi – low quick read, Maxed Out as a tipping point for discussions around: special needs, bullying, Kids Help Phone etc. Jacob’s landing will allow children a window into rural Nova Scotia where mud sliding on the banks of the Bay of Fundy is a favorite past time. A present day story that also offers a peek into the history of the ship building community of Newport Landing long ago.
