Edwin Wong

2019

Edwin Wong (1974-) has developed a new and unique model of drama called RISK THEATRE to align the art of tragedy with the modern fascination with chance and uncertainty.

In 2018, he partnered with Langham Court Theatre--one of the oldest and most respected theatre in Canada--to inaugurate the RISK THEATRE MODERN TRAGEDY COMPETITION, the largest playwriting competition in the world for the writing of tragedy. The competition invites dramatists to move beyond Aristotle, Hegel, and Nietzsche to create new, innovative, and thrilling 21st century tragedies by making risk the fulcrum of the action. In its first year, 182 playwrights from 11 countries participated (see https://risktheatre.com/ ).

Wong is an award-winning classicist with a master's degree from Brown University, where he concentrated in ancient theatre. He blogs at https://melpomeneswork.com/ and lives in Victoria, Canada.
