Jackleen Hanna

Jackleen is an award winning poet who published five poetry collections. She has written countless articles primarily for Arabic media, including Al Jazeera. Jackleen is a social activist. She values freedom in all its forms which is reflected in her writings: poetry short stories, articles, opinions, creative non-fiction. She interviewed Canadian writers such as John Ralston Saul and others. She wrote book reviews. She has been interviewed enormous times for Arabic media.

Her writings and poetry are recognized and respected internationally. The prestigious Moroccan University- Mohammed the Fifth legitimized her work of poetry as an academic tool. Dr. Professor Latifa Halim tought it, spoke about it in Arabic cultural events. (All Archived)

Jackleen decidedly began to not only write words but she is now speaking them on Radio Channels as a cultural reporter and public speaker.  She is an advocate for equality and women's rights. She was awarded the empowerment award for her writings about and for women’s rights.

She reported and presented cultural events for radios such as: BBC- Arabic. Monte Carlo, and Radio Rameem.

Her poetry collection has been nominated for one of the most prestigious book prizes in the Middle East “Alshekh Zayed Prize” in 2016.

She was selected “The Person of The Year 2013” in the field of literature and received an award for “her poetic style and creative thoughts” by Arab Canadian committee.

She received an award “Women Empowerment” year 2009 for “Dr. Roz’s Healing Place” for her unstoppable writings and advocating against violence (sexual, economical, and emotional abuse) against women of all colors and ethnicities.

She resides in Toronto as a freelance interpret and translator. As a writer she participates on many writing groups to build perspective and keep her fingers on the pages of the writing culture/s

Jackleen Salam is her Pen name. She emigrated from Syria in 1997 and has made Canada her beloved home.
