Michael Barnes

Michael Barnes was born in England and came to Canada in 1956. He was an educator in Northern Ontario until 1989 and moved to Haliburton in 1999. He holds a B.A. (Western, 1964) and an M.Ed. (Toronto, 1971). His work experience, in addition to service as a teacher and principal, includes Fleet Street copy boy, bush cook, Globe & Mail correspondent, CBC radio freelancer, newspaper columnist, speech and ghost writer. An author of 55 books with U.S. and Canadian houses, his writing area is the north and Northern Ontario, Highlands of Central Ontario, resource industries especially with regard to mining, and communities, as well as policing, with special reference to the Ontario Provincial Police. Writing about Northern Ontario. Students examine writing on the north and are motivated to write about where they live by writer who has lived in Wawa, Sudbury, Moose Factory, Cochrane, and Kirkland Lake winding up in Haliburton.
