Rachna Gilmore

Photo: Ian Gilmore 1998

Born in India in 1953. Lived in England for several years before coming to Canada. BSc Honours, Kings College, London, England, 1974; BEd, University of Prince Edward Island, 1977. After futile attempts to find a real job finally came to senses and happily settled into the far more satisfying business of telling the truth through lies. Since then, has authored numerous best-selling children’s books -- picture books, early readers, middle grade and YA novels -- with multiple honours and awards, including the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature Text. Also writes adult fiction under pseudonym Rachna Mara. Currently lives in Ottawa and continues to plark (play, work and lark) with words and stories.
