Sharon Babineau

Sharon Babineau - (Youth Speaker) is a mother, decorated military soldier, mountain climber, hockey player, writer and inspirational speaker for youth. She has been recognized for the work she has done at home and in Africa and is the recipient of many awards including – “Volunteer of the Year”, ‘Heroine in the Home”  “Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and most recently "YWCA Hamilton Woman of Distinction 2013- Turning Point". Her charity Maddie's Everlasting Wish, empowers youth to make a difference at home and aboard. She is also the founder of W.I.S.H Day, a leadership workshop for youth based on finding their passion for volunteering (40 hrs community service)

Her story has been featured in print, radio, TV and on CBC’s show “No Opportunity Wasted.” (Phil Keoghan – Amazing Race) and Oprah Winfrey Network – Life Story Project.  Sharon is the author of –“The Girl Who Gave Her Wish Away” (Bettie Youngs Books) (2012)  her daughter’s amazing story, and the contributing author of  “Chicken Soup for the Soul – Family Caregiver” (2012), Chicken Soup for the Soul - Hooked on Hockey (2013), and Chicken Soup for the Soul - Hope and Miracles (2014),  & Embracing Your Authentic Self(2011)

Presentation  (Book) - The Girl Who Gave Her Wish Away

This presentation shares the story of Sharon’s daughter Maddie. It is a powerful message of how a young teen diagnosed with terminal cancer and given the chance to fulfill a wish, anything she wanted, chose to use her precious wish to make a difference in the world. It is an inspirational message that illustrates the power of one person to change the world. This presentation is a must for high schools or anyone wanting to be reminded of the power of the spirit. Over 30,000 students have been inspired by this message.

Elementary, Grade 7-8,  and High Schools, Grade 9-12 Includes short DVD (10 mins), reading, presentation & discussion.

Sharon shares Maddie’s journey and legacy. Discusses the importance of sharing our life stories, the importance of finding your own voice and lessons learned. Empower youth to realize their potential. Explore life purpose, social justice and next steps to action (volunteering and community service).
