Sylvia Taekema lives with her family in Chatham, Ontario. Because three of her greatest loves are children, reading, and writing, she was very excited when Seconds, her first novel for young readers was published in 2013. That excitement grew when the news came that the book has been nominated for the Silver Birch Express award in the Forest of Reading 2015.

Sylvia spends a lot of her time writing, substitute teaching, and volunteering with programs for children. She loves to bake cookies and go on camping adventures with her family.

Presentation Description

If your focus is authors, Sylvia can do a large group question and answer session where children ask questions about her, her book, and the writing process.

If your focus is the book, she can lead a book club type of get-together and talk about theme, characters, and so on.

If your focus is the writing process, she will do a workshop for a smaller group talking about the essentials of a good story. For younger children, she will do this using the framework of how writing is a lot like baking cookies. For older students, she uses the framework of how writing is like cross-country running.
