Reporting to the Senior Dean of the Faculty of Media & Creative Arts, the Associate Dean, Journalists & Writers, works collaboratively with the Senior Dean and other members of the administration in the development and implementation of the Faculty’s strategic initiatives as part of the College’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. The Associate Dean will lead the successful design and delivery of academic and operational plans for the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts, specifically to the cluster of Journalists & Writers. This cluster includes several programs such as Journalism, Creative Book Publishing, Media Foundation, TV Writing & Producing, Comedy: Writing and Performance, and more. This role’s emphasis is on leading program planning, program development, program review, and evaluation, as well as leadership of professors and staff and professional development.

The Associate Dean is accountable for curriculum design, teaching assignments, marketing and promotional campaigns, employer relationships, and budget development for all programs in this cluster. The Associate Dean is responsible for administrative oversight, ensuring the effective delivery of services and financial performance within the Faculty, and leading and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within and across several program clusters, faculties, and organizational departments on curriculum design, applied research projects, and continuous enhancement of the teaching and learning environments. The Associate Dean will be a champion for using technology to expand learning accessibility and will push for a more flexible delivery of curriculum and courses to a wider variety of diverse students. As a strategic leader within the College, the Associate Dean will promote innovation, long-term planning, internal and external partnership development, and collaboration to foster the success of Humber College and the education of the next generation of journalists, writers, performers, and global citizens.

As the ideal candidate, you are passionate about supporting and developing a diverse population of students who are pursuing a career in arts and media. You have a history of working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments, and you have effective and creative ways to further develop multi-disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning. You are a champion for the strategic use of technology to enhance learning, improve the flexible delivery of college courses, and expand access to post-secondary education. You are a skilled relationship builder who finds innovative ways to connect seemingly-disconnected disciplines, ideas, and individuals in order to advance and promote the Faculty’s and the College’s success. You manage complex student issues and professors’ needs with patience, understanding, respect, unquestionable ethics, and courage. You know how to advance a culture of coordinated efforts and how to skillfully encourage teamwork and multi-disciplinary work. The ideal Associate Dean comes to Humber with diverse experience and innovative ideas; the new Associate Dean will be someone who is nimble and curious with an eye to the needs of students, industry partners, and professors, someone who challenges conventions in arts, media, and in academia and boldly looks for new ways to add value to the student learning experience at the College.
