Edmonton based member, Dolly Dennis’s first book, Loddy-Dah is now on the syllabus for first year students as part of the Women’s Literature course at Central Connecticut State University, in New Britain, Conn. In March, the class of 27 (one male) interviewed her via WebEx for an hour and then were required to write an essay on any question asked. The book was likened to Eve Ensler’s I am an Emotional Creature and Jamaica Kincaid’s Girl. Loddy-Dah will continue to be studied by these American kids most of whom are first generation immigrants to attend university. Ironically the book did not receive any national coverage in Canada. The story is set in Montreal from 1967 with EXPO 67 and ends in 1970 with the October Crisis.
