This is a video excerpt of just over 5 minutes from 'The Name Unspoken', which has won an IPPY 2020 Bronze Medal for Best Regional Nonfiction. This excerpt speaks to the name of the First Nations Chief the school was named after and the untruths told about him which resulted in his hanging in 1885. When the school was founded in Elder Pauline Shirt's living room in September 1976, she still did not know that the nan she named it after, known as Wanderin Spirit, was actually her own grandfather several generations removed.
