National Public Readings Program - In-Person Events

With the assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts, The Writers’ Union of Canada funds public author readings across Canada. For in-person events, the Union subsidizes the author’s reading fee and a portion of their travel expenses. If you are applying for multiple author readings, please submit separate applications for each author.

This application form is for in-person events and must be submitted by host organizations.

Funding is currently available for Fall Session readings taking place September 1, 2020 – March 31, 2021Applications close on August 30, 2020. All applicants will be notified of application results within 2 weeks of the deadline.

The Union strongly encourages hosts to hold readings in wheelchair-accessible venues and to consider additional presenter or audience access needs (e.g., ASL interpretation, large print materials). We also encourage you to make accessibility information available to your audience (e.g., on your website and promotional materials).

As part of the Union’s Equity Implementation Plan, applications for readings featuring authors who are Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQI2S, or living with a disability will be prioritized.
