Application for National Public Readings Northern Program

With the assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts, The Writers’ Union of Canada promotes author tours to northern communities within Canada. The Union subsidizes the author’s reading fee, travel expenses, and meals.

The deadline to apply is August 31, 2020. All applicants will be notified of application results within 3 weeks of the deadline.

An administrative fee of $79.10 ($70 + HST) must be paid with each application. If your application is unsuccessful, the fee will be refunded to you. The option to pay online will be provided after you submit this form. 

Reading Tour Details
Please list all venues with full addresses followed by estimated attendance number for each venue.

The Union strongly encourages hosts to hold readings in barrier-free venues and to consider additional presenter or audience access needs (e.g., ASL interpretation, large print materials). We also encourage you to make accessibility information available to your audience (e.g., on your website and promotional materials).


As part of the Union’s Equity Implementation Plan, applications from organizations wishing to host authors who are Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQI2S, or living with a disability will be prioritized.

Funding Eligibility

Any form of recording, taping, or broadcasting of the reading without prior written approval from the author is strictly prohibited.
