Bill Freeman
BIO
Biography

Born in London, Ontario of a school teacher's family, Bill Freeman gained a PhD from McMaster University in Sociology. Hamilton was his home for a number of years, and he has written extensively about the city and its history. For ten years Bill lived in Montreal and taught at Vanier College. In 1986 he moved to Toronto Island where he still lives in a house overlooking the Toronto harbour and the city skyline.

Bill writes books, plays, videos, and film scripts. Altogether he has written and published almost 30 books published by James Lorimer and Company, Publishers, Dundurn and McGraw-Hill Ryerson. He also self published 8 police procedurals on Amazon. He is a former chair of the Writers' Union of Canada and knows far too much about copyright.

Bill is best known as the author of the "Bains Series" of young adult novels set in in different parts of Canada in the 1870s. There are nine books in the series now and he plans to write another three set on the prairies and British Columbia before passing on to the great beyond.

Other works include books on cities, democracy, unions, and historical works. For more details of his books and other works check out his website: www.billfreeman.ca.

More recently Bill has begun publishing stories on Substack. Some of the stories are recollections, others sketches of family and humor of whatever suits his fancy. You can find all of his stories at billfree.substack.com. Become a subscriber and you will receive a new story every two weeks. They are interesting to read and even more fun to write. What's best is they don't cost a red cent.
