The Power of Story Presentation:

Learn Caroline’s recipe for rich characters and meaty plots as she talks about her writing experiences and explores how to:

  • make the most of your inspiration
  • deal with your inner critic
  • use research in writing
  • create believable characters
  • start your story…and where to end it

This presentation explores her contemporary and historical novels and can be tailored to focus on a specific novel or form depending on the needs and interest of the audience.

"Egghead"
focus: Character Development and Bullying Awareness

This presentation explores the evolution of the novel Egghead. Drawing upon her memories of being a bystander, her inspiration from Jerry Spinelli, and her research of Barbara Coloroso’s work, Caroline show students how the story developed. She talks about the books that inspired the alternating points of view and the ones that encouraged Will’s free verse poems. Along the way, we examine what it means to be a bystander, how bullying affects us all, and what we can do to make a change.
