BIO
Biography

Ella Harvey (formerly Elaine) is a retired nurse with a B.Sc. in Nursing from the University of Victoria. Her diverse career and adventurous spirit have taken her to five continents with experiences in Asia and Africa marking her worldview. She presently lives in beautiful Victoria, on the west coast of Canada, yet is frequently found dreaming of elsewhere.

Ella’s second memoir, A Time of Light and Shadow, To Asia, Africa, and the Long Way Home explores her quests as a young woman, confronting the harsh realities of conflict zones, chasing adventure, and seeking connection. In India, half a lifetime later, she reflects on poverty and privilege, youth and aging, and longing and belonging. It is in conscious engagement with ‘the other’ that she finds a bridge to our common humanity.

A Time of Light and Shadow will be published by Rocky Mountain Books in October 2022.

Encounters on the Front Line, Ella’s first travel memoir, documents her journey as a nurse in a Cambodian refugee camp after the horrific Khmer Rouge regime. Published by Promontory Press 2015.
