BIO
Biography

Michelle Hébert is a journalist and social worker who has turned the most difficult times in her life into stories that challenge, inspire, and remind us of the shared humanity that makes life sparkle. She’s created audio essays and long-form documentaries for CBC radio and television, and combined her journalism skills with her love of history and passion for social justice to write her first non-fiction book, Enriched by Catastrophe: Social Work and Social Conflict after the Halifax Explosion, which was published by Fernwood in 2007. Her debut novel, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, will be published by Vagrant Press in May 2024 – around the same time she’ll graduate with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of King’s College.

Michelle lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. She posts about writing, mental health, cake, and her cats on Threads (michelle.hebert.writes),Twitter/X (@hfxwordy) and Instagram (michelle.hebert.writes).
