Sapha Burnell was born in Vancouver, BC in the 80’s and teethed on images of the Berlin Wall falling down. The product of Vancouver's multiculturalism, she steeped in divergent cultures, religious experiences and gender roles from an early age. Sapha is an award winning filmmaker, martial artist and author of Usurper Kings & Son of Abel. She studied Literary Theory, Creative Writing, Film & Chemistry in University and won the Cinergy Film Festival's Audience Choice Award in 2009. Serving on charitable committees, Sapha works on diversity & cultural acceptance.

As a volunteer in West Africa, Sapha discovered a global perspective, and returned to writing motivated to shift the role of women, minorities and the LGBTQ Community.

Sapha served as the BC/Yukon Regional Representative on The Writer's Union of Canada's National Council in 2017-18.
