Biography

Anna Leventhal’s acclaimed short story collection Sweet Affliction (Invisible Publishing) won the Quebec Writers’ Federation Concordia University First Book Prize and was named a book of the year by CBC Books. It was translated into French by Daniel Grenier and published by Marchand de feuilles. Her writing has appeared in Geist, Matrix, Maisonneuve, Lettres quebecoises, carte blanche, The Puritan, The Montreal Review of Books, and several short fiction anthologies. She was nominated for the Journey Prize, won a Quebec Writing Competition award, and was shortlisted for a Canada Writes award. Her short story "Gravity" was adapted into the short film "Sweet Affliction" by writer/director Jess Lee, which won the  Prix du Public at the IMAGE +NATION LGBTQueer Film Festival in 2017. She was the 2021-2022 Writer in Residence at the Winnipeg Public Library. 

After 20-odd years in Tio’tia:ke/Montréal, she now lives in Winnipeg, Treaty 1 territory.
