Tim Yearington
BIO
Biography

I am a Metis writer/author currently living in Kingston, Ontario. I am originally from the North Bay and Mattawa area. I am a citizen of the Metis Nation of Ontario. My ancestral territory is the Ottawa River (Kitchizibi) Valley and the Mattawa River Region. This vast, majestic territory provides the rich, background landscapes featured in all my writing. As a mixed-blood, Metis-Algonquin Indigenous author, my work strives to share our traditional knowledge, teachings and worldview. In addition to my own life experiences I also weave old legends, stories and tales into my writing.

My two previously published non-fiction books with Borealis Press (Ottawa) are, That Native Thing: Exploring the Medicine Wheel (2010) and, Quest for the Thunderbird Nest: Returning to Algonquin Spirituality (2019). These two books are illustrated in full colour with my own artwork, paintings, illustrations, diagrams and photographs. In addition to being a writer, I have also worked as a professional illustrator. I have been involved with the publishing industry since 1990 when I first began working as a freelance illustrator for various publishing clients across North America. I have also been a professional fine artist.

I am currently working on my third book, The Werewolf and the Shaman. This fiction book is about the Mattawa River area and features the mysterious 'sacred sites' once revered by the Algonquin and later by the Metis Voyageurs. In this book, a young man takes a canoe journey upon the Mattawa River and meets an old man who is a shaman. By using ancient 'medicine ways' the old shaman helps the youth to face - and heal - the very monster he is struggling with inside himself.

I am available for a variety of virtual presentations, in-person talks and speaking engagements about my work and also about traditional Metis-Algonquin worldview.
