Biography

A nonconformist, having fought censorship in literature in his former totalitarian homeland of Czechoslovakia, he has had two of his book-length manuscripts destroyed, himself having been persecuted and eventually sentenced to a two-year prison term. Embraced by freedom offered to him by Canada, he has, so far, written two new novels and four collections of poetry.Educated in Czechoslovakia, Canada (UBC) and London (UK), he is an avid organizer, with two national conferences on literature, two literary galas and a national book exhibition to his credit, all executed under the honorary patronage of the Governor General of Canada. Based on his vast experience, especially in ethnic and non-conformist literature, he has initiated and developed a Centre for Canadian Literatures project incorporating literatures of over 120 languages of Canada.
Apart from his creative literary endeavours, he is devoted to the analysis of the problems of the post-Communist literature in Europe and avaialable to disseminate the information to learned institutions, public libraries as well as the general public on any basis.
